Welcome to Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum's 2024 Event Schedule. We look forward to hosting our Special Events and Tours as well as our Private Group Tours with you. Our tour docents have been spending their time developing new tours to share with you. This magnificent piece of architecture is a classic among American cemeteries and features stained glass, faceted glass, and Gemmaux windows, veined and matched marble, bas relief, mosaics, and wood carvings. The tour focuses on the windows and some mosaics. Join Spring Grove Docents Marie Lager and Karen Wais on this walking tour as they share the origins, artisanship, and the stories behind each of the breathtaking window masterpieces.

Join us for the 10th Annual Chocolate in the Chapel even held in the historic Norman Chapel just in time for Valentine’s Day. Local businesses will showcase their sweet treats and may offer a tasty sample. Visitors will also be able to take a mini walking tour of the Norman Chapel led by Spring Grove's expert Docents.  The tour begins at 2:00pm.  There is no registration for this event.

Proper Pruning Techniques 2025

Winter is the time when horrendous pruning is easily seen on dormant deciduous plants.  Spring Grove's Horticulture Team will discuss pruning that is within the best accepted practice for any selected tree or shrub.  They will explain the different types of pruning that can be done to plants.  Remedial pruning will also be discussed to improve plant structure and appearance.  You will go home with your questions answered and ideas to try in your landscape.

Raptor Inc will be here with an exciting presentation on the birds of prey that inhabit Spring Grove Cemetery.  First, see them up close in the Norman Chapel (constructed in 1879) then prowl through the grounds to see and hear them in their natural habitat.  Please dress accordingly if you will be participating in the outdoor portion of the program.

This event is free to the public but we are asking that you bring a donation for Raptor, Inc.  Some items on their wish list include: Paper Towels / Latex Gloves (small or medium) / Gas Cards / Dawn dish soap / post-its / forever stamps

Join us for Student Volunteer Day at Spring Grove! Contribute to meaningful horticulture projects across our 450 pristine acres. This opportunity is open to high school and college-age students, as well as members of the public, including parents. Participants will earn service hours for their contribution. Registration is required. Each session is limited to 25 people. Student Volunteer Days are offered the second Saturday of each month, April-August / 9:00-12:00pm.

The Horticulture Team will meet you at the Customer Service Center. Dress for the weather. Wear close-toed shoes and bring water.

History In Bloom 2025

History In Bloom 2025

Please join us for an afternoon filled with History, Heritage and Horticulture as we present a variety of tours to delight all interests and ages. We turn back time as horse drawn carriages ride through the arboretum on a beautiful Spring Sunday.  The rides begin at Noon and run continuously until 3:30PM.  Along the route see some of Spring Grove’s Champion trees, beautiful blossoms, lush green foliage, art, architecture and wildlife.  You will even meet some of our more notable ‘residents.’

Walking tours will be led by our knowledgeable docents at 12:00, 1:30, and 3:00.  Tour topics will be posted soon. Advance reservations are not required; simply sign up at the information table the day of the event.  Dress appropriately and come rain or shine!  All tours and activities begin at the main entrance just before the railroad overpass at Spring Grove.

Early Morning Bird Walk 2025

Gather at the Norman Chapel and meet the amazing birds of Spring Grove on this expert-guided walk.  Flock together with fellow bird lovers and expert ornithologist, Jeff Hays, to search for over 200 species that roost and nest at Spring Grove.  This is an excellent outing for families and beginning birders are especially encouraged to attend.

Bulb Pulling 2025

Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum plants over 23,000 tulips every year and strives to donate all of the bulbs.  Volunteers are invited to join Spring Grove’s horticulture staff in digging the tulips.  All tulips will be bagged and sorted by color.  Any who volunteer are welcome to take home one bag per person of the tulips of their choice at no charge.   Please bring a trowel, kneeling pad, gloves, etc.  Event held rain or shine. Please bring non-perishable food items to exchange for your bag of tulips.  All items will be donated to Churches Active In Northside (CAIN). Registration is required.

In honor of Mother’s Day, the Spring Grove Family wishes to pay tribute to all Mothers.  We will be distributing flowers to all of our visitors on Sunday, May 11, 2025.  Carnations, the floral symbol of Mother’s Day, will be available from 10:00am - 4:00pm in our Customer Service Center (just inside the main gate of the cemetery) and also at information tents located on the grounds.  Carnations represent purity, strength and the endurance of a mother’s love.

An Afternoon With the Beer Barons 2025

BEER! MUSIC! TOURS! FUN!

The Spring Grove Heritage Foundation will host the 8th Annual 'An Afternoon with the Beer Barons' event from 4P to 7P. Participating brewers will provide samples of their most popular and unique beers. Live music will be provided by Cincy River Rats and food trucks will be on-site for purchase. Online ticket sales will open February 1, 2024. This is a 21 and over event.

This event will be held outdoors in the scenic Rose Garden just inside the main entrance of the cemetery. The event is a salute to the rich history of beer in Cincinnati as many of the founding Beer Barons are buried here at Spring Grove. Our Heritage Foundation Docents have done extensive research on these famous families and will share their vast knowledge as our guests join the Docents on air-conditioned motorcoach tours of the cemetery throughout the event.

Lantern Lighting Ceremony 2025

Because you are important to the Spring Grove Family, you are cordially invited to participate in the Annual Lantern Lighting Ceremony.  Held on the grounds of Historic Spring Grove Cemetery and Arboretum, this FREE event promises to be a unique evening of entertainment, beauty, and remembrance for the entire community.   

5:00 - 7:30 pm / Gathering, Lantern preparation, Entertainment This is a FAMILY event.  Bring a picnic, blanket, lawn chairs, relax and enjoy the magnificent grounds of Historic Spring Grove as you are entertained by the PETE WAGNER ORCHESTRA.  (Please note the cemetery does not provide seating).  Prepare your personalized lantern by inscribing your own words of remembrance and hope on our specially designed lanterns.  Through them you send your unique message of love, peace, and hope into the world and to those we love and have lost.  The lanterns are then assembled with a candle and prepared for a launch onto Willow Water Lake.  Please stop by our Information Tent to share the name(s) of your loved one(s) with us.  All the names of those we are remembering will be read aloud before the launch of the lanterns.  Remember to have your photo taken with your lantern and those sharing the event with you, and be sure to pick up your complimentary copy of the photo. 

7:30 - 8:00 pm  / Lantern lighting & launching at Willow Water Lake At dusk we will gather at the shoreline to share a simple but beautiful ceremony.  The candles are lit and the lanterns are set upon the water to carry their messages.  As the lake is slowly illuminated with glimmering candlelight, the individual candles join to transform the darkness of the setting sun.  A $5.00 tax-deductible donation to the Spring Grove Heritage Foundation is requested for the use of each lantern.  Entertainment and parking are free. Food will be available at a nominal charge. For the safety and security of all our visitors, please leave your pets at home.  Ample parking is available and shuttle service for persons with disabilities from designated parking to the lake complex is provided. 'Cruise In' Car Show 2025

Spring Grove hosts one of the largest Car Shows in the area each October. Models 1995 and older are welcome. There is no entry fee but we ask that participants bring a non-perishable food item to benefit CAIN (Churches Active In Northside). Concessions will be available to purchase. Mini tram tours will be available throughout the event. If you are attending as a spectator, there is no need to register. This registration is meant for show vehicles only.
